The Most Popular Honeymoon Destinations

popular honeymoon destinations

The honeymoon represents one of the most traditional elements of the whole wedding and one that is highly unlikely to ever go out of fashion, even today.

It is a great way to celebrate your new life as a married couple. From beautiful beaches to wonderful landscapes, there’s a place for everyone. Here are some of the most popular honeymoon destinations.

Palm Springs

Palm Springs is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in Californian. The number one reason why honeymoon couples love Palm Springs is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. It features the world’s largest rotating tramcar and it takes you on a journey of over 2.5 miles and 8000 feet of elevation. When you reach Mountain Station at the top, you will be treated to some amazing views of the valley below you.

Here you can grab some food at the restaurant, check out the small natural history museum, or go hiking. If you want something more relaxed, there are shorter loop trails that are great for honeymoon couples or the whole family.

Palm Springs is a great town to walk around in with a popular downtown street that includes restaurants, shopping, and their own Palm Springs Walk of Fame.

Another reason why honeymoon couples love Palm Springs is the Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway. This mid-century modern home is famous because it’s where Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley spent their honeymoon night.

While they didn’t spend a lot of time here, other than that night, it’s still a fun connection and a beautiful house to tour. The tours happen twice daily and they take you all over the house with guides explaining the architecture and the connection to Elvis.

Big Sur

Wondering what a honeymoon couple can do at Big Sur? The options are endless at this enchanting and popular honeymoon destination. From the iconic Bixby Bridge to the infamous McWay Falls, there is magic around every corner.

Limekiln State Park is a delightful introduction to Big Sur and to its history. This state park has a great beach and campground, but the main draws are the hikes that head inland. Both hikes start on the same trail, and then there’s a split in the middle that takes you to two distinct endpoints.

The first follows the stream up to a nice waterfall with a large log sitting right in the middle of it, and then when you get back to the main trail, you can continue on the other split to the historic limekilns. The limekilns are from which the park gets its name and they are nestled in the trees back at the end of the trail. Both of these spots are worth the hike and a beautiful introduction to the Big Sur area.

If you’re on a tight itinerary and don’t have time to traverse any state park trails, head to Pfeiffer Beach. Located about 7 miles south of Andrew Molera State Park next to Los Padres National Forest, Pfeiffer Beach is secluded in feel, offering expansive shorelines covered by towering, vegetation-heavy bluffs and striking rock formations.

San Clemente

If you are looking for a quick weekend getaway or a beautiful destination for a Californian honeymoon or something to add on to a longer trip, then the beautiful city of San Clemente in Southern California is an excellent choice.

Come to San Clemente prepared to enjoy the great outdoors, whether on land or on the water. Mornings can be chilly and damp due to coastal fog, but the sun usually comes out by the early afternoon.

Like most southern California beach cities, San Clemente has a long pier and beach trail that runs along the coast aside from the fisherman’s restaurant and bar at the base of the pier. There is not much on the pier. It is primarily used for walks, watching surfers or fishing. if you and your partner walk out to the end of the pier there is a good chance of spotting some seals.

The best beach in San Clemente is a popular surfing spot and is easy to spot because of the giant staircase and overpass that extends over the train tracks at the top. You will find metered parking and great views of the pier and coast.

The whole area is nice and spread out so you should not have any problem finding your own space no matter what time of year.

Joshua Tree

No visit to Joshua Tree, California would be complete of course without a trip to Joshua Tree National Park. The park is known for its majestic natural scenery, world-renowned rock climbing, imposing rock formations, and trails that wind their way through the Mojave Desert.

Arch Rock is one of the favorite romantic escapes of the honeymoon couples in the entire park.  This short half-mile trail takes you to the arch so you can explore all around it. It is also a great place for couple photography.

Another great spot is Ryan mountain. It is not the tallest mountain in Joshua Tree. The mountain is the most prominent with the beautiful 360-degree view from the summit. This hike is short but it is incredibly steep and goes up the entire way so don’t take it lightly once you get to the summit.

Though you will be able to look out all over the park and see the rock formations and all the Joshua trees dotting the landscape below you.

La Jolla

La Jolla is a popular place for newlyweds to celebrate their new life together. It is a coastal town located near San Diego however there is so much more to La Jolla than just going to the beach and seeing the Pacific Ocean.

The beaches found along the breathtaking San Diego coastline offer more than just beauty, they also offer a wide array of activities, from soothing relaxation to exciting water sports.

You can also visit the other neighborhoods which include La Jolla Shores, Black’s Beach, Windansea, Mount Soledad, and the Village.

There are twelve hundred shops and two hundred restaurants. It is also famous for the 240 seals and sea lions.
