Satcom Direct named preferred flight deck datalink provider for Sun Air Jets

Sun Air Jets, the private jet charter and management company, has named Satcom Direct, the business aviation solutions provider, as its preferred supplier for flight deck datalink connectivity services for its fleet of managed and charter aircraft. Activations of the SD FlightDeck Freedom® (FDF) communications platform, which supports secure and reliable datalink services between crew, air traffic control, and ground personnel are already underway.

The majority of the mixed fleet, which includes Bombardier Global and Challenger types, Gulfstream models, Citation X aircraft and Hawker airframes, will be using the new FDF services by the end of the year. Sun Air is optimizing the power of FDF flight tracking and benefiting from significant automation pushing real-time information about hazardous weather, geo-notifications, security events and other critical flight path data. The immediacy and accuracy of these vital updates were significant factors in Sun Air’s selection process.

Nick Cook, Director of Flight Deck Services for SD, explains, “FDF improves situational awareness, reduces pilot workload, and enhances safety as it conveys real-time data which might impact a planned route. It also meets compliance requirements for aircraft operating in international airspace. The platform’s open architecture design allows for integration with third-party services, including trip planning. This all contributes to facilitating a streamlined flight experience for our customers and their passengers.”

The news follows a Sun Air NBAA announcement which confirmed the operator’s adoption of ForeFlight’s flight planning services to support its international charter activity. The seamless integration of the flight planning product with the FDF service adds immediate and tangible value to Sun Air operations and consequently its customers.

“We undertook a review of our existing services and recognized the benefit of selecting a solution that meets our fleet’s specific needs, missions, and budget requirements. We wanted a comprehensive flight deck datalink service that could give us better flight tracking information and also integrate with our selected flight planning solution. SD delivers a technologically advanced suite of services that improves our efficiencies and is underpinned by impressive customer support. We’re investing in technology to enhance our customer services and know that SD is doing the same. This heavily influenced our selection process,” says Ed Fares, director of operations Sun Air Jets.

Sun Air Jets Partners with 4AIR

Sun Air Jets is proud to announce a new partnership with 4AIR, the first and only rating system focused on comprehensive sustainability in private aviation, for verification of its program to offset carbon emissions. This commitment to 4Air, along with other company sustainability initiatives, reinforces Sun Air Jets’ dedication to reducing its overall environmental impact and will further enhance its sustainability program.

Working with an industry leading carbon offsetting company allows Sun Air Jets to greatly reduce its carbon footprint. The 4AIR program provides a simplified, verifiable path to its environmental impact.

  •  4AIR will rate the greenhouse gas emissions for Sun Air Jets’ charter flights. In addition, 4AIR will review offsets, standards, verification, validation, and purchase and retirement of carbon credits and any other offsetting measures and ensure that they meet the criteria set forth by industry-leading standards and 4AIR’s rating guidelines.
  • Sun Air Jets’ flights participating in the validated emissions offset program can be certified 4AIR Bronze, indicating that their operation is carbon-neutral by virtue of offsetting all of their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions with verified carbon offset credits. These credits will fund specific, verified, real-world projects intended to offset carbon emissions.

“We are excited to partner with 4AIR as we continue Sun Air’s journey along the path to carbon neutrality. 4AIR’s expertise and credentials will allow us to verify our contributions to a cleaner planet” says Sun Air Jets President and CEO, Brian Counsil.

“4AIR not only offers turnkey sustainability solutions but, as the only rating system for private aviation emissions reduction, will evaluate and verify Sun Air Jets’ sustainability program,” said Kennedy Ricci, 4AIR’s president. “We can give Sun Air Jets, its stakeholders and its customers the assurance that the program is meeting its goals and reducing emissions at levels equal to those generated by the flights.”

Sun Air Jets’ Commitment to Sustainability: The partnership with 4AIR extends Sun Air Jets’ commitment to sustainability. Under a previous program, Sun Air Jets purchased credits in 2021 that offset emissions equal to 4,452 metric tons of carbon.

Sun Air Jets’ Camarillo Airport and Van Nuys Airport facilities are both Certified Tier 1 Green Aviation Businesses via the National Air Transportation Association (NATA). This commitment is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase the use of environmentally friendly energy sources, reduce waste, and encourage sustainability. Its facilities feature sustainable design with state-of-the-art green technology such as solar roof arrays, EV charging stations, refillable water stations to eliminate single-use drinkware, motion-sensing LED lighting, and more.

In addition, Sun Air Jets appreciates that pollution extends beyond carbon emissions. Noise pollution affects the communities in which it operates, which is why it subscribes to the Van Nuys Airport Quieter Nights Program. This program is briefed to all of its flight operations staff to ensure that the correct procedures are followed so that Sun Air Jets’ operations may exist in harmony with its neighbors. The proof of this commitment is Sun Air Jets’ repeated success in being awarded the Friendly Flyer Award.

Sun Air Jets Van Nuys (KVNY) Certified as Green Aviation Business by (NATA)

Sun Air Jets is excited to announce that its Van Nuys location (KVNY) has also been certified as a Green Aviation
Business with Tier 1 status by the National Air Transportation Association (NATA). This is the second location to
achieve this exciting designation for Sun Air Jets. The company worked with the NATA to evaluate and meet the
standards for its Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses in 2021 for the Camarillo (KCMA) location.

The NATA Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses is a new sustainability initiative, developed in 2021, created
to provide FBOs, airports, and other aviation businesses a self-certification process for pursuing flexible, cost-effective
options to lower their carbon footprint.

Developed by a working group under NATA’s Environment Committee, the NATA Sustainability Standard for Aviation
Businesses is a free industry standard designed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (including CO2), increase
use of more environmentally friendly energy sources, reduce waste, and encourage sustainability operation-wide.
“NATA is grateful to Sun Air Jets for their input in developing the standard and leadership as an early adopter. It is
inspiring to see our members’ enthusiasm for meeting the requirements of this sustainability standard and then raising
the bar even higher for greater improvement,” stated NATA President and CEO Timothy Obitts.

Director of Business Development for Sun Air Jets, Mary Brehm, said, “It was an honor to work closely with the NATA
Environment Committee on this project and other environmental initiatives. Sun Air Jets is very excited to have our Van Nuys location receive this distinctive certification as well.”

The addition of the new green building certified hangars and the facilities on Roscoe Boulevard at the Van Nuys
Airport greatly expands the size of Sun Air Jets’ footprint of available space and presence in the Los Angeles area. The
two adjoining hangars each have an attached private terminal and office and provide 71,0000 square feet of new
space over 4.4 acres. Designed to offer a superior level of luxury and sophistication, the new Van Nuys facilities offer
private offices, lounges, conference meeting rooms, gated guest parking.

To further reduce their carbon footprint, Sun Air Jets continues to regularly make beneficial adjustments. Additional
electric vehicle charging stations and FloWater refillable water stations have recently been installed at all of their
greater Los Angeles area locations.

fuel and carbon offsets, please visit sunairjets.com/sustainability.
