Sun Air Jets Completes Specialized Gulfstream Handling Course

Sun Air Jets has completed Gulfstream’s FBO ground handling and servicing training program designed to improve dispatch reliability and increase safety for Gulfstream aircraft and the people who support them.

“Sun Air Jets is proud to have achieved 100 percent completion of Gulfstream’s FBO ground handling and servicing training for all line service technicians,” said James Evans, the company’s director of safety and FBO operations. “Safety awareness in all facets of servicing our customer’s aircraft has always been our top priority, and Gulfstream’s training has been a great resource to help further our focus on aircraft-specific processes.”

Sun Air Jets and CAE Create Pilot Development Program for Young Pilots

Sun Air Jets and CAE have created a pilot development program (PDP) to allow young pilots to gain flight experience in second-in-command (SIC) roles on Beechcraft King Air 350s operated by Sun Air Jets.

“This [PDP] will help provide additional qualified pilots while increasing overall safety,” said Sun Air Jets director of operations Ed Fares. “The program is designed to bring beneficial operating experience to our young pilots, allowing them the opportunity to grow into bigger jet aircraft and a strong foundation as a safe and professional pilot.”

Aviation Industry Taps Military Vets to Fill Broadening Job Openings

Sun Air Jets, a private Camarillo-based aircraft management company with extensive operations at Van Nuys Airport, has seen many pilots and aircraft mechanics retire in recent years.

“We hire the pilots, maintain the airplanes and keep them in hangars for our clients,” said Stephen Maloney, the company’s chief operating officer. “And if they want to use a third-party charter company we arrange for that.”

Sun Air Jets Re-certified as Green Aviation Businesses by NATA

Sun Air Jets is excited to announce that both of their southern California locations have been re-certified as Green Aviation Businesses with Tier 1 status by the National Air Transportation Association (NATA). These locations include the FBO, hangar, management and maintenance facilities located at the Camarillo Airport, (KCMA), and the hangar, management and maintenance facilities located at Van Nuys Airport, (KVNY). 

The NATA Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses is a sustainability initiative, created to provide FBOs, airports, and other aviation businesses a self-certification process for pursuing flexible, cost-effective options to lower their carbon footprint.  Developed by a working group under NATA’s Environment Committee, the NATA Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses is a free industry standard designed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (including CO2), increase use of more environmentally friendly energy sources, reduce waste, and encourage sustainability operation-wide.

“NATA joins Sun Air Jets in celebrating the recent renewal of its annual self-certification of the NATA Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses at its Van Nuys, CA (KVNY) and Camarillo, CA (KCMA) locations. We applaud their leadership in the early adoption of the standard and continued commitment to its pillars in pursuing their environmental goals,” stated NATA President and CEO Curt Castagna.
