Best Beaches to Visit in August

There is just something so inviting and invigorating about the beach. It doesn’t matter whether you are sitting in the sand reading a book, waiting on your board for the right wave, or trying to keep an eye on a carload of kids — peace is always found by the water.

Beaches all have the same general atmosphere with water as far as the eye can see, sand, and sometimes rocks. Yet, all around the world, the beaches can be different. Some are darker and more menacing whereas others are bright, clear, and welcoming. Some have white sand, others have pink or black sand. Some are bustling with beachgoers and others offer privacy and seclusion. There is a beach that has what you are looking for. It’s up to you to find it.

So, if you are interested in checking out the best beaches to visit in August, where would you go? We have put together a list to get you started.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

Rumor has it that Carmel Beach may be the most beautiful beach in the United States. The tranquil waters and white sandy beach with a rocky shoreline make the view just spectacular – and that’s before even getting in the water!

This is the type of beach you come to and stay a while. You pack a cooler, bring your pup, and spread out your blanket on the sand. When you are ready, indulge your senses with a dip in the wonderfully clear and cool water.

Take a deep breath. This is what serenity looks like.

Perhaps the best part is that you will find the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea itself to be just as rewarding as the beach. With art galleries, historic sites, shops, and more, you can easily turn this into a beach getaway for the weekend.

More than one visit to Carmel Beach? Sure thing.

Gulf Shores, Alabama

Most people don’t put Alabama and best beaches in the same sentence together— but they should. In Gulf Shores and the Gulf Shores Public Beach, you will find everything you need to enjoy a beach getaway.

Palm trees? Check!
White sandy beaches? Check!
Clear ocean waves? Check!
A boardwalk with restaurants? Double check!

You will find beachgoers in Alabama like to have as much as they like to relax in the sun. There is always a beach volleyball game going on here, as well as boogie-boarding, snorkeling, fishing, and more.

Seattle, Washington

Alki Beach located in Seattle, Washington is unlike most other beaches. After all, it is not every day that you get to relax with your toes in the sand and have breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains and bustling downtown Seattle.

Some come here for the water and the sand, others come to stay fit in such a picturesque setting. This beach is located in Puget Sound and promises you nothing short of a good time. Strike up a game of beach volleyball. Go for a run. Try your hand at skating. Have a bonfire. Grill out some delicious grub. Or dine in one of the local restaurants. Or just kick back and soak it all in.

August is a wonderful time to visit the beaches of the northwest.

Kauai, Hawaii

Are you looking for a beach that is off the beaten path? Sometimes you don’t want to head out to the beach that everyone else is at —even if it is supposed to be the best beach. What if you could have the best of both worlds?

What if you could visit one of the best beaches in August and not have to deal with heavy crowds? If the idea of that makes you jump for joy, then Honopu Beach in Kauai is where you need to be heading.

It is absolutely stunning and very secluded. So much so that many people have a tough time finding it. But, we promise the journey is worth every minute of the search.

This area has great meaning to the people here as it is known to be a sacred ancient burial ground. So, while you are visiting Honopu Beach, be sure to take care to not leave anything behind and respect the natural area. Instead, enjoy the following:

  • Waterfalls
  • Sand dunes
  • The Honopu Arch (it’s 90 feet in the air)

Of course, you won’t want to forget the rafting tour to reach this part of Kauai.

Siesta Key, Florida

They say that the sunset at Siesta Key Beach is incredible. And coupled with its bright white sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters, this little island is a slice of pure bliss.

Located along Florida’s west side, the waters of the Gulf of Mexico are what surround Siesta Key. Here families can have fun, couples can sneak a romantic getaway, and old and young can enjoy the surroundings.

Did we mention the beaches here are also wonderful for your shell collection?

Just in case you forget to pack a cooler, there are restaurants, cafes, oyster bars, and the like conveniently located near all the beaches in Siesta Key.
